As we’ve written in the past, we at Milz Health Group are extremely tuned in to healthcare legislation and policy. And it’s not for political reasons – it’s because it’s our job to know what’s going on so that we can serve our clients in the best possible way. No matter how the law changes, we make it our business to be up to date so that we can advise our valued clients to get the best value on the coverage they need.

If you’ve paid attention to the news lately, you may have heard a lot of discussion about “repeal and replace.” Because several Republican senators and representatives campaigned on a promise to either repeal or fundamentally change the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), there seems to be a sense of urgency to work to change healthcare legislation in the United States.

The first attempt at changing legislation was to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with the American Health Care Act. This bill sought to do away with some of the mandates that Obamacare contained, such as the employer mandate and the mandate that everyone is required to have health care insurance. For various reasons, this bill did not pass. A second attempt at repealing Obamacare was also tried. You may have heard of this as the “skinny repeal.” The purpose of this bill was simply to repeal Obamacare but not put any legislation in place of it for the time being. The thought was that a replacement could come at a later date. This bill also did not pass, failing passing the senate by just one vote.

So for the time being, the Affordable Care Act is still the law of the land. Will this change? Only time will tell. If you are interested in healthcare legislation and policy, you can find ample information just about anywhere and read up on it for yourself. If you aren’t interested, we have good news – we’re interested on your behalf and it’s our job to stay informed to advise you!
